What's in Your First Aid Kit?
First aid plays a fundamental role in saving a person’s life. It is after all the very first application of care given to someone in an accident or experiencing a medical emergency; it also goes without saying that having the proper tools will greatly help in administering initial treatment.
In a society where lifestyle magazines ask, “what is in your bag?”, here in our little mommy corner of cyberspace, I ask, what is inside your first aid kit?
Here’s what I have in mine that you can use as a guide to creating your own:
EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBERS
Have a copy of all emergency contact numbers (emergency services, fire department, police, family members etc.). If you have the time, have this laminated.
QUALITY BAND AIDS
Go for the ones that work sans the cute prints and patterns (although I am guilty of keeping a collection of character band aids). Have a bunch of them in different shapes and sizes. Make sure these are the ones that are super sticky and stay on well. You can also save money by cutting them to the size you need rather than having them in varying sizes.
BASIC MEDICATION & OINTMENTS / CREAMS
For: pain relief, allergies, insect bites, antibacterial treatment etc.
If a family member has certain specific medications, have those in your supply as well. Be sure to regularly check the expiry date of your medical supplies.
GAUZE & MEDICAL TAPE
WETWIPES / ALCOHOL
There may be other items that you would like to include, and that’s alright. Your first aid kit is specific to your family’s needs. Keep one at home, a smaller more compact version in your car and your child’s bag.
What other items do you have in your first aid kit? Send photos or let me know in the comments!
